SUMMARY
We currently have a full time opening for a Senior Product Design Engineer at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.
Responsible for concept development, product design, component and process design, testing, and validation of new products or processes. Among other duties will also be responsible for component prototype fabrication and testing, assisting with outside manufacturer selection, evaluation and communication. Provide manufacturing support when needed. Rely on experience and judgment to make recommendations and/or decisions within the scope of their essential job responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of systems, products, assemblies and components that meet specified requirements.
Lead cross-functional project teams in the definition, planning, design, testing, documentation, validation and manufacture of new products.
Provide clear and succinct project/product related information to the product development team and company leadership.
Responsible for the on-time, on-quality, and on-budget delivery of project tasks.
Product or component prototype fabrication, design evaluations, and testing.
Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
Complies with all SOP and regulatory requirements pertaining to the development of medical device hardware.
Develops and maintains product and/or process documentation.
Supports the manufacture of existing products through needed design changes to improve quality/cost.
Assists with outside manufacturer selection, evaluation and communication and provides support in the establishment and maintenance of suppliers.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (mechanical, biomedical or other technical area);
5-10 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have direct work experience with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and demonstrate the ability to:
Read, analyze and interpret engineering specification, sketches and technical procedures.
Read and generate Engineer drawings per ANSI 14.5. SolidWorks experience preferred.
Use (or direct the use of) prototype shop tools and machinery to produce and test prototype parts. Knowledge of the machine safety requirements.
Methodically analyze engineering issues and provide practical solutions in timely manner.
Use and apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations in resolving engineering issues.
Apply statistical methods as part of engineering evaluations.
Model positive, professional, and influential interpersonal skills and behaviors.
Plan, track, and accomplish goals.
